Fire Safety Failures Found in Noida Hospitals

0

Noida: Around 50 big and small private hospitals and nursing homes in Gautam Budh Nagar district are operating without a required fire safety certificate. Other medical facilities also lack proper fire safety measures.

This was revealed during fire department inspections checking existing fire safety rules in the district. The inspections happened after a tragic fire at a Delhi hospital killed six infants on Saturday.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Noida chapter has formed a committee with fire experts and doctors. This committee will inspect medical facilities to check if they are following fire safety guidelines properly.

“Around 50 big and small private hospitals and nursing homes across the district are operating without getting a no-objection certificate from the fire department,” said Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, the chief fire officer in Gautam Budh Nagar.

The hospitals and nursing homes not following guidelines are private ones, mostly located in outer areas of Noida and Greater Noida.

There are around 450 registered big and small healthcare facilities like hospitals, nursing homes, labs and diagnostic centers in the district. Of these, 188 are hospitals that admit patients.

Fire safety no-objection certificates are mandatory for commercial buildings, residential buildings, offices and other establishments. Certificates are only given after fire department inspections confirm the buildings follow fire safety laws.

Buildings under 15 meters tall and 500 square meters don’t need certificates. But they must still have proper fire safety like alarms, extinguishers and fire exits.

18 identified hospitals have reapplied for fire NOCs. 9 others that didn’t reapply had their licenses cancelled. Some hospitals are still installing fire safety equipment.

“We are informing officials about facilities not following rules while still operating,” said Dr Chandan Soni, deputy chief medical officer in Noida.

IMA Noida president Sunil Awana said they have asked the association to address these issues. The 5-member IMA committee will inspect medical premises across the district for fire guideline violations.

Meanwhile, fire officials are continuing inspections to identify more establishments not following fire safety guidelines.

KKR Claim Third IPL Title in Dominant Win Over SRH

SunRisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the coin toss and chose to bat first in the final match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. SunRisers had a very bad start when Mitchell Starc dismissed Abhishek Sharma for 2 runs in the first over itself. In the next over, Vaibhav Arora got Travis Head out for 0 runs, leaving SunRisers at 6/2 in less than 2 overs.

SunRisers could never recover from this early setback and kept losing wickets frequently. Even scoring 100 runs looked very difficult. However, some aggressive batting by captain Pat Cummins towards the end helped SunRisers reach a total of 113 runs before they were all out in 18.3 overs.

Kolkata’s bowlers did extremely well, with every bowler taking at least one wicket. Andre Russell was the best Kolkata bowler, taking 3 wickets while giving away just 19 runs. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana took 2 wickets each. Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and Vaibhav Arora got 1 wicket each.

When Kolkata batted, they also lost an early wicket when Pat Cummins dismissed Sunil Narine in the 2nd over. But then Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer stabilized Kolkata’s innings and took the score past 100 runs.

Towards the end, Kolkata lost Gurbaz’s wicket at 39 runs. But captain Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer ensured there were no further hiccups. Kolkata won their 3rd IPL trophy in the 11th over when Venkatesh Iyer scored a single off Shahbaz Ahmed’s ball.

BJP Slams Arvind Kejriwal and AAP Over Alleged Assault on Party MP Swati Maliwal

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal over an alleged assault on one of their own MPs. Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal claims she was mistreated and verbally attacked by a close aide of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking to the ANI news agency on Monday, senior BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj said her party vehemently denounces the incident if it is true that Kejriwal instigated his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) staff member to physically assault and misbehave with Swati Maliwal, right in front of the Chief Minister himself.

Swaraj, who is the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from the New Delhi constituency, questioned how Kejriwal can ensure the safety of women in the capital if he cannot even protect a member of his own party in his presence. She called the alleged actions “shameful” and demanded Kejriwal provide answers.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur also reacted strongly, claiming the alleged incident shows that not everything is going smoothly within the AAP. He stated that “Nari Shakti” or women’s empowerment seems unsafe in Kejriwal’s party. Thakur raised doubts about rising tensions in AAP, suggesting these could escalate further when Kejriwal is jailed on June 2nd for defamation. The Minister hinted that other Kejriwal family members may join active politics soon.

As per reports, Swati Maliwal visited the Civil Lines police station on Monday evening and verbally alleged that a personal staff member of Arvind Kejriwal had misbehaved with her. She is said to have made police control room calls reporting the incident but has not filed an official written complaint yet.

The opposition Congress party also criticized the AAP over the Maliwal incident. Former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely questioned how AAP can guarantee the safety and security of Indian citizens when they cannot maintain order and control within the Chief Minister’s official residential premises and among their own staff members.

Lovely argued that if AAP leaders cannot ensure proper conduct and a secure environment within the confines of their government accommodations, how can they provide assurances about upholding law and order across the national capital territory of Delhi.

Bomb Threat Emails Cause School Evacuations in Delhi

0

New Delhi:

Around 100 schools in Delhi and the areas nearby sent students home early today. This was after the schools got emails threatening that there were bombs on their grounds. Police officers are searching the school buildings thoroughly, but have not found anything suspicious yet.

“We are taking all proper steps at the schools that got bomb threats. I request parents not to panic, as nothing suspicious has been found,” said Suman Nalwa, the Delhi Police spokesperson.

Another police officer said, “This is someone doing mischief. An email has been sent to all the schools on a large scale to spread panic.”

The Union Home Ministry has also said that the threats seem to be fake and there is no need to panic. “It appears to be hoax call. Delhi Police and security agencies are taking necessary steps as per the normal process,” the government said.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena said the police have traced where the bomb threat emails came from and they appear to be hoax emails.

“The Delhi Police have traced the origin of the emails. I am assuring citizens of Delhi that the police are alert, getting leads, and will take strict action,” Mr Saxena said.

Some of the first schools to get the threat emails early today were Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School at Mayur Vihar and Delhi Public School at Dwarka. Since then, around 100 more schools have also received similar emails, claiming there are explosives on their grounds.

One school, Mother Mary, was conducting an exam when they got the threat. They had to stop the exam midway as the search operations started. The school declared an emergency and asked everyone to leave immediately.

In an email to parents, DPS said, “We have received an email threatening the safety and security of the students. As a precaution we are sending the students home immediately.”

The school buildings were evacuated after informing the local police. Videos showed parents rushing to the schools to pick up their children.

Bomb detection teams, bomb disposal squads and Delhi Fire Service officials have been sent to the schools.

Some schools that did not get a threat have also sent students home early as a precaution.

Delhi’s education minister Atishi confirmed the events, saying that so far nothing suspicious has been found yet in any of the schools.

“Some schools have received bomb threats this morning. Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any schools. We are constantly in touch with the Police and schools. I would request parents and citizens not to panic. School authorities will contact parents if needed,” Atishi said.

In February, a similar threat at Delhi Police School had turned out to be fake.

Inheritance Tax: Zerodha Co-founder Kamath Supports, Experts Divided

0

There has been a lot of discussion and debate recently about having an ‘inheritance tax’ in India. An old video of Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, has resurface, where he talks about this issue with media. In the video, Kamath says he supports having an inheritance tax in India. “When wealth gets passed down from one generation to the next, there needs to be a way to redistribute a portion of it. Many countries have inheritance taxes,” he says.

Kamath’s comments come at a time when there is wider talk about distribution of wealth, after recent statements from Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, on inheritance tax in the US.

“Countries like South Korea, America, and the UK have inheritance taxes, also known as estate taxes. In India, where only about 3% of people pay income tax, having an inheritance tax could bring more people under the tax net,” Kamath says in the video.

He suggests that such a tax on the ‘extremely rich’ could give the government the money needed to make required reforms. Kamath adds that inheritance tax could be a way to achieve this.

However, some argue against having an inheritance tax in India, saying it may not be justified. “An inheritance tax discourages people from working hard and could set the country back,” says Mumbai-based investment and tax expert Balwant Jain.

In his view, implementing an inheritance tax does not serve the national interest.

Inheritance tax is not a new concept in India. This tax existed in India before it was removed in 1985.

Introduced in 1953 under the Estate Duty Act, the inheritance tax aimed to reduce economic inequality. The government at that time saw significant wealth inequalities and thought of having such a tax.

Neeraj Agarwala, partner at Nangia Andersen India, says that according to section 47 of the Income Tax Act, the transfer of capital assets through inheritance is not considered a taxable transfer. So, receiving ₹20 lakh and two house properties through inheritance does not have any tax liability currently. Any tax would only come if the house property is sold in the future. He says there is currently no provision in the income tax return for declaring inherited property, and so, no additional disclosure is required for these inherited assets.

Sam Pitroda sparked this debate on ‘inheritance tax’ in India recently. He pointed to the existing inheritance tax in America, where 45% of wealth can be transferred to children upon death, while 55% goes to the government, saying this is a fair system. Pitroda highlighted that there is no such provision in India, where heirs inherit the full wealth, leaving nothing for the public. He stressed the need to debate and discuss these issues, saying wealth redistribution policies should prioritize the interests of the people, not just the super-rich.

Rajasthan (13 seats) Rajasthan will see polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in phase 2, including Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, and Udaipur among others. Several big names are in the fray like Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat (BJP) in Jodhpur, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla (BJP) in Kota, and Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot (Congress) contesting from Jalore.

Maharashtra (8 seats) The second phase covers 8 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra – Buldhana, Akola, Amravati (SC), Wardha, Yavatmal-Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, and Parbhani. A key contest will be in Amravati, where Navneet Rana, an Independent MP who had frequent run-ins with the previous MVA government, is the BJP candidate. In Nanded, once a Congress bastion, the BJP has fielded Prataprao Chikhalikar hoping to make inroads after the joining of former CM Ashok Chavan.

Uttar Pradesh (8 seats)
Eight UP seats – Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura and Bulandshahr – will also vote in this phase. The BJP has some interesting candidates like Ramayana’s Ram Arun Govil contesting from Meerut and actor Hema Malini fighting from Mathura again. The SP-BSP alliance is posing a stiff challenge to the BJP across these western UP seats.

With several political stalwarts in the fray and high-stakes contests brewing across states, the second phase of the 2024 polls is set to be a thrilling battle that could go a long way in deciding the complexion of the next Lok Sabha. Voting will begin at 7 AM on April 26 amid tight security arrangements across all the poll-bound constituencies.

Photo of Crime Boss Chhota Rajan After 9 Years in Jail Surfaces

0

The first photograph of crime boss Chhota Rajan since his arrest nine years ago appeared on social media. This photograph dismissed rumors that he had died or was very sick while in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Chhota Rajan was arrested at an airport in Bali and brought back to India in 2015. Since then, he has been kept in a high-security cell in Jail No. 2 in Tihar.

This recent photo of Chhota Rajan dismissed speculation that he had died inside Tihar during the Covid pandemic or had a serious illness. The photo has also renewed fears of a possible attack on him while he remains in prison.

Chhota Rajan used to work under the crime boss Dawood Ibrahim in Mumbai. But they had a disagreement after the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Rajan has also received many death threats from Chhota Shakeel, another crime boss.

While Rajan has been in Tihar since 2015, the prison officials never gave any official statement or update about him until now.

Rumors of Chhota Rajan’s death Chhota Rajan tested positive for Covid-19 in April 2021 and was admitted to AIIMS Delhi hospital. After the news came that a criminal politician from Bihar named Shahabuddin died from Covid, there was speculation that Rajan had also died from the virus.

In 2000, some shooters working for Chhota Shakeel attacked Rajan in Bangkok. Rajan was shot multiple times, which again led to rumors of his death. However, he survived the attack.

Dawood and Chhota Rajan parted ways after disagreeing over the violence following the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

In 1994, an international arrest notice was issued for Rajan. But it was rumored that after separating from Dawood, Rajan was helping authorities with information about Dawood’s criminal operations.

After nearly 20 years on the run, Chhota Rajan was finally caught in 2015 when he arrived at an airport in Bali from Sydney. He was reportedly using a passport with the name Mohan Kumar, but ended up telling immigration officials his real name Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalke.

Nestle Baby Food Products High in Added Sugar in India

0

A study by Public Eye found that some top-selling Nestle baby food brands in India contain high amounts of added sugar. However, the same products are sugar-free in countries like the UK, Germany and Switzerland.

The report states that Nestle, the largest consumer goods company worldwide, adds sugar and honey to infant milk and cereal products in several nations. This violates international guidelines aimed at preventing obesity and chronic diseases in children. Violations were only found in Asian, African and Latin American countries.

A Nestle India spokesperson told NDTV Profit that the company has reduced added sugars in its infant cereals by 30% over 5 years. They said they “review” and “reformulate” products to cut sugars further, using “high-quality ingredients”.

Findings showed all 15 Cerelac baby products in India contain nearly 3 grams of added sugar per serving on average. The same products have no added sugar in Germany and the UK. In Ethiopia and Thailand, they contain almost 6 grams of sugar.

The amount of added sugar is often not disclosed on the nutrition labels of such baby food products. The report criticized Nestle for not being transparent about added sugars while heavily promoting other nutrients.

Nestle sold over ₹20,000 crore worth of Cerelac products in India in 2022.

Experts warn adding sugar, which is highly addictive, to baby foods is dangerous and unnecessary. It can lead to children developing a sweet tooth and craving more sugary foods, increasing risks of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure later in life.

Chaitra Navratri 2024: The Spiritual and Scientific Aspects

0

Chaitra Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated in the month of Chait, which falls in March or April according to the Hindus calendar. In 2024, Chaitra Navratri will be started from 9th April to 17th April. This nine-day festival is dedicated to the worship of goddess Durga.

The scientific reasons behind Chaitra Navratri:

1.Significance: Navratri means “nine nights” in Sanskrit. During these nine nights, devotees worship the nine forms of the goddess Durga, who is believed to be nine shakti (divine feminine power).

2. Fasting: Many devotees observe a fast during Navratri. This practice is believed to purify the body and mind. Scientifically, fasting can help in detoxification, improving metabolism, and promoting self-discipline.

3. Colors: Each day of Navratri is associated with a specific color. The colors are believed to represent different aspects of the goddess. For example, the first three days are associated with red, representing strength and power. The next three days are associated with blue, representing peace and calmness. The last three days are associated with yellow, representing knowledge and prosperity.

    4. Puja (worship): During Navratri, devotees perform pujas and offer prayers to the goddess. The puja involves the use of specific items, such as flowers, fruits, and lamps. Scientifically, the use of flowers and fruits can be seen as a way to connect with nature and appreciate its beauty. The lamps symbolize the dispelling of darkness and the pursuit of knowledge.

    5. Kanya Pujan: On the eighth or ninth day of Navratri, a ritual called Kanya Pujan is performed. In this ritual, young girls representing the goddess are worshipped. Scientifically, this practice can be seen as a way to promote respect and appreciation for women in society.

    6. Dances and celebrations: Navratri is also known for its vibrant dances and celebrations. In many parts of India, people perform traditional dances like Garba and Dandiya. These dances are not only a form of cultural expression but also provide physical exercise and promote social bonding.

    7. Astrological significance:Chaitra Navratri is celebrated during the begning of summers . Scientifically, this period is associated with changes in weather patterns and seasonal cycles, which can affect agricultural practices and human activities.

It’s important to note that while some aspects of Chaitra Navratri may have scientific explanations, the festival is primarily a spiritual and cultural celebration for Hindus.

BJP Calls Congress Manifesto ‘Bundle of Lies’ Over NY, Thailand Pics

      0

BJP Slams Congress Manifesto Over Wrong Photos, Calls It ‘Bundle of Lies’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party over the inclusion of wrong and misleading pictures in its election manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The ruling BJP has accused the grand old party of lacking wisdom and attempting to mislead voters through its manifesto, dubbed the “Nyay Patra” (Charter of Justice).

Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi pointed out that the Congress manifesto features a picture of the Buffalo River in New York under the water management section. Shockingly, a picture from Thailand, which is known to be Rahul Gandhi’s favorite holiday destination, has been included in the environment section.

Using a popular Hindi proverb “Akal bade ya bhains?” (Is wisdom greater or the buffalo?), Trivedi mocked the Congress for displaying a lack of prudence in this matter. “Till now, they have not been able to find out who was posting tweets from their social media chairperson’s account. Now, who sent them these pictures? They did not use wisdom in either situation,” he said.

The BJP has alleged that the Congress has come out with a “bundle of lies” as its manifesto, with the sole intention of misleading voters. “It is an irony that Congress is seeking the people’s mandate with the promise to do wonders if voted to power,” Trivedi remarked.

Taking a jibe at the name “Nyay Patra” (Charter of Justice), the BJP spokesperson said that the very name suggests that the Congress had done injustice to the country during its 50-60 years of rule. “The Congress did not fulfill any of the promises made in its earlier manifestos for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections,” he alleged, asking, “Which are the Congress-ruled states where Rahul Gandhi’s promise of giving ₹72,000 to people has been implemented?”

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya also mocked Rahul Gandhi and the Congress manifesto, saying, “It looks like the Congress forgot that it is preparing a manifesto for India and not putting together a holiday itinerary for Rahul Gandhi! What else explains using a picture of Thailand under the Environment section? It shouldn’t be a surprise if Rahul Gandhi dashes off to Thailand for yet another holiday soon after the elections.”

It is worth noting that the Congress has made several new promises in its manifesto, covering areas like education, agriculture, environment, law, and welfare schemes for Dalits, tribals, and backward classes. However, the BJP has questioned the manifesto, alleging that its sole purpose is to mislead the electorate.

The ruling party has accused the Congress of failing to deliver on the promises made in its previous manifestos, both at the state and national levels. The BJP has been relentlessly attacking the Congress, raising questions about its promises and the credibility of the pictures included in the manifesto.

Keywords: BJP, Congress manifesto, Lok Sabha elections, wrong photos, bundle of lies, Nyay Patra, misleading voters, Rahul Gandhi, Buffalo River, Thailand, water management, environment, lack of wisdom, unfulfilled promises, holiday itinerary, scathing attack, Dalits, tribals, backward classes.

Bangladesh’s “India Out” Movement: Implications, History, and Economic Realities

      0

In Bangladesh’s dynamic political landscape, the influence of neighboring India has always been a significant factor. From historical independence struggles to contemporary socio-economic ties, the relationship between Bangladesh and India is complex and multifaceted. Recently, the emergence of the “India Out” movement on social media has stirred discussions, advocating for the boycott of Indian products with hashtags such as #IndiaOut and #BoycottIndia. Let’s delve deeper into the roots of this movement and its potential implications.

Historical Context: Anti-India Sentiments in Bangladesh

Throughout Bangladesh’s history, there have been instances of anti-India sentiments, often intertwined with political ideologies and movements. Figures like Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, who advocated for a pro-China stance and criticized alliances with India, set the stage for political discourse surrounding the “India factor.” Even in contemporary politics, opposition parties like the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have occasionally taken anti-India stances to gain traction, citing concerns about sovereignty and economic dependency.

BNP’s Political Strategy: Riding the Wave of Anti-India Sentiments

For the BNP, the “India Out” movement serves as a potential political strategy to regain momentum amidst declining influence. With boycotts of elections in recent years contributing to their waning power, some leaders within the party have subtly endorsed the movement. Public gestures like discarding Kashmiri shawls and advocating for product boycotts aim to resonate with segments of the population disillusioned with India’s perceived influence in Bangladesh’s affairs.

Economic Realities: The Cost of Severing Trade Ties

While anti-India sentiments may garner political support, severing trade ties with India carries substantial economic repercussions. Bangladesh’s economic prosperity, particularly in industries like textiles, is intricately linked with Indian trade. India’s role as a major supplier of raw materials and construction materials fuels Bangladesh’s industrial growth and infrastructure development. Any disruption to this trade relationship could have detrimental effects on both countries’ economies, especially amidst ongoing negotiations for comprehensive economic partnerships.

The Youth Perspective: Pragmatism over Ideology

Contrary to traditional political narratives, the younger generation in Bangladesh tends to prioritize economic development over ideological confrontations. Educated and pragmatic, they view collaboration with India as essential for progress in a globalized world. The overwhelming support for the ruling Awami League-led alliance in recent elections reflects this pragmatic approach, indicating a shift away from outdated notions of boycotting products based on political ideologies.

The Path Forward: Building Trust and Collaboration

Ultimately, fostering trust and collaboration between Bangladesh and India requires concerted efforts from both governments. Initiatives such as promoting people-to-people contacts, encouraging media cooperation, and easing visa regulations can help bridge divides and strengthen the foundation of the India-Bangladesh partnership. In an era defined by interconnectedness and interdependence, nurturing positive relations between neighbors is crucial for mutual prosperity and stability.

In conclusion, while the “India Out” movement may resonate with certain segments of Bangladeshi society, its long-term implications on politics and economics warrant careful consideration. Balancing political rhetoric with economic realities and fostering cross-border collaboration is essential for navigating the complexities of the India-Bangladesh relationship in the 21st century.

Bail Granted to AAP Leader Sanjay Singh: Insights and Implications

      0

In a significant development, the Supreme Court recently granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh. This decision came amidst probing questions directed at the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the agency responsible for Mr. Singh’s arrest. The court’s decision to grant bail raises pertinent questions regarding the handling of the case and sheds light on the complexities surrounding it.

      The Court’s Scrutiny

One of the primary concerns raised by the Supreme Court was the prolonged detention of Mr. Singh without a trial. Despite the allegations leveled against him, the court highlighted the absence of concrete evidence, emphasizing the lack of recovery of the alleged bribe amount. This scrutiny underscores the importance of due process and the need for substantial evidence before depriving an individual of liberty.

      Lack of Substantiating Evidence

The court’s observation regarding the absence of recovered funds challenges the ED’s claims of bribery amounting to ₹600 crore. With no tangible evidence supporting these allegations, questions arise regarding the basis of Mr. Singh’s detention. Moreover, the court’s directive to reevaluate the necessity of Mr. Singh’s custody reflects a commitment to fairness and justice in legal proceedings.

      Implications for Political Landscape

Mr. Singh’s release carries significant implications for the political landscape, particularly in the context of upcoming elections. As a prominent figure within the AAP, his participation in political activities can potentially influence the electoral dynamics. However, it is noteworthy that the court has cautioned against any interference with the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the need for restraint in public statements.

      Conclusion

The grant of bail to Sanjay Singh by the Supreme Court marks a crucial development in a case that has garnered widespread attention. While offering relief to the accused, the court’s decision underscores the principles of justice and the importance of evidence-based proceedings. As the legal process unfolds, the implications of this decision on both the political and legal spheres remain subject to ongoing scrutiny and analysis.

“Is Your Income Tax Slab Different Now? Here’s What You Need to Know

      0

In a bid to address the rampant circulation of misleading information across social media platforms regarding the new tax regime, the Finance Ministry has stepped in with a much-needed clarification. With effect from April 1, 2024, no new changes are set to take place. However, what remains unchanged is the flexibility provided to taxpayers in choosing between the old and new tax regimes based on their individual preferences and financial situations. Let’s delve deeper into what this entails and how it impacts taxpayers.

The Choice Between Old and New Tax Regimes

The crux of the matter lies in the introduction of the new tax regime under section 115BAC(1A) in the Finance Act of 2023. This new regime, applicable for individuals other than companies and firms, presents a default option from the Financial Year 2023-24 onwards. However, what sets it apart is the absence of various exemptions and deductions, except for standard deductions such as Rs. 50,000 from salary and Rs. 15,000 from family pension.

      Flexibility for Taxpayers

One of the key highlights of the new tax regime is its flexibility. Taxpayers retain the autonomy to opt for the tax regime—old or new—that aligns with their financial interests. Moreover, this choice isn’t set in stone; taxpayers can opt out of the new regime until filing their return for Assessment Year 2024-25. Notably, individuals without business income can alternate between the old and new regimes for each financial year, providing them with a considerable degree of flexibility.

      Understanding the Tax Slabs

To comprehend the implications fully, let’s break down the tax slabs under both regimes:

      New Tax Regime:

      • Income from ₹0 to ₹3,00,000: 0% tax rate
      • Income from ₹3,00,001 to ₹6,00,000: 5%
      • Income from ₹6,00,001 to ₹9,00,000: 10%
      • Income from ₹9,00,001 to ₹12,00,000: 15%
      • Income from ₹12,00,001 to ₹15,00,001: 20%
      • Income above ₹15,00,000: 30%

      Old Tax Regime:

      • Income up to ₹2.5 lakh is exempt from taxation.
      • Income between ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh is taxed at 5%.
      • Income from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh is taxed at 20%.
      • Income above ₹10 lakh is taxed at 30%.

      Conclusion

In conclusion, the Finance Ministry’s clarification serves to dispel any misconceptions surrounding the new tax regime. While the default option might present lower tax rates, it’s essential for taxpayers to weigh the benefits against the absence of exemptions and deductions. Ultimately, the choice between the old and new regimes rests with the individual, with the Ministry ensuring ample flexibility to accommodate diverse financial circumstances.

In the initial stages of this year, the Indian automotive sector witnessed a promising beginning in January, which carried forward into the subsequent month. The roster of top-selling cars for February 2024 remained consistent with the previous month, albeit with some intriguing shifts in rankings. As is customary, Maruti Suzuki maintained its dominance, securing six positions among the top ten, while the remaining spots were claimed by two Tata vehicles, one Mahindra model, and one Hyundai offering. Below is a compilation of the top 10 automobiles sold in India during February 2024, as reported by Autopunditz.

      Maruti WagonR

      Source-Carandbike

Recording sales of 19,412 units in February 2024, the venerable Maruti Wagon R clinched the title of the best-selling vehicle for the month, marking a 15 percent increase in year-on-year sales. With a rich heritage that has significantly shaped the landscape of hatchback automobiles, the Wagon R stands as a trusted choice for both urban commuters and commercial fleet operators alike. Its attributes, including effortless maneuverability, pragmatic design, fuel-efficient powertrains, and various other features, collectively render it an exemplary hatchback tailored for Indian conditions. Notably, sightings of the prototype for the updated Wagon R have been frequent, indicating an imminent release.

Maruti has outfitted the WagonR with two petrol engine options: a 1-liter variant and a 1.2-liter version. Both engines are paired with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT transmission, with the 1-liter variant offering an optional CNG kit but exclusively with manual transmission. The WagonR achieves a mileage of 25.19 km/l from petrol and 34.05 km/kg from CNG.

      Tata Punch

      Source-Carewale

Experiencing continued success since its inception, the Tata Punch maintained its momentum in February 2024, emerging as the second best-selling car and surpassing its predecessor, the Tata Nexon. With sales reaching 18,438 units, the Punch achieved a remarkable 65 percent growth compared to the previous year. The introduction of the Tata Punch EV notably bolstered its sales, alongside existing petrol and CNG variants. Its rugged appeal, elevated seating position, SUV-like interiors, and top-notch safety ratings contribute to its popularity in the Indian market.

The Punch is available in petrol, CNG, and electric variants. Petrol iterations feature a 1.2-liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox, while the Punch EV offers battery options of 25 kWh and 35 kWh, providing ranges of 315 km and 421 km, respectively.

Renowned for its family-friendly characteristics and cost-effective operation, the Baleno continues to reign as the best-selling premium hatchback in the market.

Sharing its engine with the Maruti Swift, the Baleno is powered by a 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission, and also offered in CNG variants. Its mileage stands at 22.94 km/l for petrol and 30.61 km/kg for CNG.

Anticipation surrounds the impending release of the next-generation Swift, which is expected to influence the Dzire’s market position.

The Dzire is equipped with a 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine, coupled with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox, and is also available in CNG variants, boasting a mileage of 31.12 km/kg for CNG and 22.41 – 22.61 km/l for petrol.

Despite marginal year-on-year growth, the Brezza remains a top contender in the compact SUV segment, surpassing its sibling, the Fronx. Offering a well-rounded package of space, comfort, and powertrain options, the Brezza stands out for its reliability, underlining Maruti’s dominance in the market.

Powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine, the Brezza is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, featuring mild-hybrid technology across all automatic variants. The Brezza achieves a mileage of 17.38 – 19.8 km/l and offers CNG variants with a mileage of 25.51 km/kg.

“Hyderabad vs Mumbai: Battle for Supremacy in Today’s IPL Showdown!”

      1

Today’s Encounter in the Indian Premier League: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are poised to engage in their second confrontation in IPL 2024 on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Both SRH and MI are still in quest of their inaugural points in the tournament subsequent to suffering defeats in their inaugural matches, which culminated dramatically.

SRH was vanquished by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 23, as KKR’s Harshit Rana adeptly defended 12 runs during the conclusive over. Despite Shahbaz Ahmed and Heinrich Klaasen’s robust offensive, Rana managed to dismiss them both, clinching a narrow 4-run triumph for KKR.

MI, helmed by Hardik Pandya, succumbed to Gujarat Titans (GT)—the franchise he had previously led in the preceding two seasons. Pandya confronted Umesh Yadav in the final over, with Mumbai requiring 19 runs for victory. Although Pandya accrued 10 runs off the first two deliveries, he persisted with an aggressive approach. Mumbai endured the loss of two swift wickets—including Pandya’s—to concede the match by a margin of 6 runs.

Historical Rivalry: SRH vs MI Hyderabad and Mumbai have engaged in 21 IPL duels thus far. SRH has emerged triumphant in 9 of those encounters, while Mumbai has claimed victory in 12. SRH’s pinnacle total against MI stands at 200 runs, whereas MI’s zenith score against Hyderabad is 235.

In the preceding five IPL skirmishes between the two sides, Mumbai has emerged victorious on four occasions. SRH last tasted success against Mumbai in IPL 2022.

Fantasy XI for SRH vs MI Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah (Vice-Captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma (Captain), Tim David, Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, Washington Sundar.

Pitch Analysis for SRH vs MI Bowlers have often lamented the flatness of Hyderabad’s pitches, rendering bowling a challenging task. However, it’s worth noting that a leg-spinner (Mumbai’s Alzarri Joseph) amassed figures of 6/12 on this turf in IPL 2019, setting a benchmark in the tournament’s history.

Conversely, batsmen have thrived on these surfaces. During IPL 2017, David Warner compiled a magnificent 127 at this venue, while Jonny Bairstow added 114 runs in the same encounter. SRH holds the record for the highest team total, having amassed 231/2 in IPL 2019. Intriguingly, the loftiest chase at this ground stands at 160 runs.

Weather Conditions for SRH vs MI The meteorological forecast for Hyderabad indicates temperatures hovering around 31 degrees Celsius at the onset of the match, with a slight drop to 29 degrees thereafter. No precipitation is anticipated, and humidity levels are projected to remain below 46%.

Prediction for SRH vs MI Google’s prognostication model tilts in favor of the visitors, allotting them a 55% likelihood of prevailing over Hyderabad in their second outing and securing their maiden points in the league.

Then, with a deafening roar and a violent tremor, disaster struck. The bridge, a lifeline connecting communities and facilitating commerce, gave way under the strain, sending cars tumbling into the chasm below and trapping unsuspecting pedestrians in a nightmare of twisted metal and concrete debris.

In the aftermath of the collapse, a scene of chaos and anguish unfolded as emergency responders raced against time to rescue survivors and tend to the injured. Heart-wrenching tales of narrow escapes and heroic rescues emerged amidst the rubble, underscoring the raw human drama playing out against the backdrop of structural failure.

As the dust settled and the initial shock gave way to grim reality, questions loomed large: What caused the Baltimore Bridge to collapse? Was it a failure of engineering, a lapse in maintenance, or a confluence of unforeseen factors conspiring to undermine the bridge’s integrity?

Authorities wasted no time launching an investigation into the root causes of the disaster, assembling a team of experts to comb through the wreckage and analyze data in search of answers. Initial findings pointed to a complex interplay of factors, including age-related deterioration, inadequate maintenance, and environmental stressors exacerbated by climate change.

Years of neglect and underinvestment in infrastructure maintenance had taken their toll, leaving the bridge vulnerable to the ravages of time and the forces of nature. Cracks in the concrete, corrosion of steel reinforcements, and erosion of support structures all contributed to a gradual weakening of the bridge’s structural integrity, setting the stage for disaster.

But while the physical factors at play were evident, the human dimension of the tragedy was equally profound. Each car swallowed by the abyss, each life lost or forever altered, was a stark reminder of the stakes involved when infrastructure fails.

In the days and weeks following the collapse, the city of Baltimore rallied together in a spirit of resilience and solidarity, mourning the loss of those who perished and offering support to those left behind. Candlelight vigils, memorial services, and acts of kindness served as beacons of hope amidst the darkness, reminding us of the strength of community in times of crisis.

As the investigation into the Baltimore Bridge collapse continues, one thing remains abundantly clear: the need for urgent action to address the systemic issues plaguing our nation’s infrastructure. From crumbling bridges to aging roads and dilapidated public facilities, the time for complacency is long past.

In the wake of tragedy, there is an opportunity for renewal, a chance to reimagine our cities and towns as resilient, sustainable communities built to withstand the challenges of the 21st century. By investing in infrastructure modernization, prioritizing maintenance, and embracing innovative technologies, we can ensure that tragedies like the Baltimore Bridge collapse become relics of the past, rather than harbingers of an uncertain future.

As we mourn the loss of lives and grapple with the aftermath of this devastating event, let us also commit ourselves to building a safer, more secure world for generations to come. The road ahead may be long and fraught with challenges, but together, we can rise to meet them, forging a path towards a brighter tomorrow for all.

“Discovering the Hidden Gems of Munsiyari: A Journey into India’s Enigmatic Paradise”

      0

Munsiyari, nestled in the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand, India, serves as both the administrative center and a gateway to the majestic Himalayan range. At an altitude of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet), this hill station attracts adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike, with its pristine surroundings and access to various trekking routes into the heart of the mountains.

Derived from local vernacular, the name ‘Munsiyari’ translates to ‘place with snow,’ a fitting description considering its location at the foot of the towering Himalayas. Situated along the banks of the Goriganga river, Munsiyari has rapidly emerged as a favored destination for mountaineers, glacier aficionados, and high-altitude trekkers. Its strategic position on the ancient salt route from Tibet and at the entrance of the Johar Valley adds to its historical significance.

The demographic fabric of Munsiyari is diverse, comprising several caste groups, including the indigenous Shauka tribe, Scheduled Castes, and various other general castes such as Kshatriyas and Pandits, alongside a minority presence of Sikhs, Christians, and Buddhists.

While Munsiyari Bazaar serves as a commercial hub, it is not formally designated as a town. The bazaar area encompasses villages like Malla Ghorpatta and Bunga, while surrounding settlements such as Naya Basti, Sarmoli, Nana Sem, Jainti, and Papdi collectively form the broader Munsiyari region. Facing east towards the breathtaking Panchachuli ranges, the main bazaar area bustles with activity, offering provisions and services to both locals and visitors.

Ascending beyond the main settlement, one encounters Malla Johar, an upper region comprising 14 transhumant alpine villages. These villages, temporarily inhabited from May to early November, embody a traditional way of life deeply connected to the rhythms of nature in the Himalayan landscape.

      History of Munsiyari

In 2013, during a summer festival held in Munsiyari market, locals proposed granting the town Nagar Panchayat status, which is a lower level Municipality. The Gram Panchayats associated with the Munsiyari market also supported this proposal. Subsequently, on 28 February 2014, the Uttarakhand(INDIA) Cabinet decided to confer Nagar Panchayat status not only to Munsiyari but also to Chaukhutia and Naugaon. This decision was formally announced by the then Chief Minister, Harish Rawat, during his visit to Munsiyari.

The proposed municipal area was intended to include five Gram Panchayats: Mallaghorpatta, Tallaghorpatta, Bunga, Sarmoli, and Jainti. However, despite the issuance of an official notification on 7 October 2014, the formation of the Nagar Panchayat faced significant opposition from the Gram Sabhas (village councils). This opposition resulted in the inability to establish the Nagar Panchayat.

Efforts were made in June 2015 by government officials to engage in dialogue with local villagers, but these attempts were unsuccessful. Consequently, the notification enabling the formation of the Nagar Panchayat was revoked on 22 August 2016, signaling the end of the initiative.

      Climate and Weather

Munsiyari experiences a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius to a minimum of -12 degrees Celsius.

Ladakh Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk Continues ‘Fast of 21 Days’ on 13th Day of Protest

      0

Renowned climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has persisted with his ‘fast unto death’ protest, which commenced on March 6 in Leh, Ladakh. His steadfast commitment aims to advocate for constitutional safeguards for Ladakh as a Union Territory and to shield its delicate ecosystem from the encroachment of industrial and mining interests.

As Wangchuk’s protest entered its 13th day, he reiterated his plea for constitutional protections for Ladakh and the preservation of its ecological balance. In a poignant message, he highlighted the sacrifices made by supporters who endured harsh conditions, symbolizing their dedication to the cause. Wangchuk underscored the importance of upholding democratic principles, condemning any denial of democratic rights to the people of Ladakh as akin to a betrayal of democracy itself.

Initiating his protest from the high-altitude region of Leh, Wangchuk addressed a gathering, outlining the key objectives of his movement. He emphasized the need for individuals to adopt simpler lifestyles and appealed directly to the government to honor its commitments, particularly regarding Ladakh’s inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and the grant of statehood.

Expressing disappointment over the government’s apparent backtrack on its promises, Wangchuk questioned the rationale behind the shift in stance. He pointed out the explicit mentions of safeguarding Ladakh’s interests in the BJP-led Central government’s electoral manifestos, raising concerns over the dilution of proposed measures.

The ongoing dialogue between Ladakhi leaders and the Central government, aimed at addressing the region’s demands, including statehood and constitutional safeguards, has thus far yielded no conclusive outcomes. In the face of this impasse, Wangchuk’s protest serves as a potent reminder of the need to prioritize the voices of Ladakhi people and counterbalance the influence of vested interests.

Wangchuk’s activism extends beyond regional concerns to encompass broader environmental issues plaguing the Himalayan region. He decries the exploitation of natural resources by industrial entities, citing instances of dam construction and mining activities. Urging collective action, he calls upon individuals to form support groups advocating for nature conservation and the protection of indigenous communities.

The choice of a 21-day fasting period carries symbolic significance, mirroring Mahatma Gandhi’s historic fasts during the Independence struggle. Wangchuk hopes to evoke empathy from policymakers by subjecting himself to self-imposed hardship, compelling them to address Ladakh’s grievances in a timely manner.

At the heart of Wangchuk’s demands lies the aspiration to secure Ladakh’s autonomy through the Sixth Schedule, a constitutional provision that grants self-governance to autonomous administrative regions. By advocating for Ladakh’s inclusion in this framework, Wangchuk seeks to empower the region with legislative and administrative autonomy, akin to the northeastern states currently under the ambit of the Sixth Schedule.

As Wangchuk’s protest persists, it serves as a clarion call for collective action to safeguard Ladakh’s ecological heritage and uphold its democratic aspirations in the face of mounting challenges.

Ford to Reuse Chennai Plant for Exports, Creating Thousands of Jobs After Meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

      0

Ford plans to restart Chennai plant for exports, showing its strong commitment to India. This will help create 2,500 to 3,000 new jobs.

On Friday, American carmaker Ford announced plans to use its Chennai plant for exports and has informed the Tamil Nadu government about this decision. After stopping vehicle production in India in 2021, Ford has now submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the state government, confirming it will use the Chennai factory for export purposes.

Ford’s announcement came after a meeting between its leaders and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin during his visit to the United States.

“This move shows our continued commitment to India. We plan to use the manufacturing skills in Tamil Nadu to serve new global markets,” said Kay Hart, President of Ford’s International Markets Group.

Ford also mentioned that this strategic decision is part of its larger ‘Ford growth plan’ and will focus on using the Chennai facility for making vehicles for export to international markets.

Ford stated that more details about the type of manufacturing and other specifics will be shared later.

The company also emphasized that this announcement reinforces Ford’s commitment to India as an important part of its global operations.

Ford currently has 12,000 employees in its Global Business Operations in Tamil Nadu, and this number is expected to grow by 2,500 to 3,000 jobs in the next three years.

The company also mentioned that, along with its engine manufacturing in Sanand, India is home to Ford’s second-largest salaried workforce in the world.

In September 2021, after nearly 30 years of challenges in India, Ford announced it would stop making vehicles at its two Indian plants and would only sell imported cars as part of a company restructuring plan.

Ford sold its vehicle manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, to Tata Motors. However, the company was unable to close its vehicle and engine manufacturing operations in Chennai.

Supreme Court Grants Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Liquor Policy Case After Six Months of Arrest

      0

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday after spending six months in jail in connection with the liquor policy case. The decision was made by two judges, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, who had different opinions.

Justice Surya Kant said that keeping Kejriwal in jail for so long was unfair and took away his freedom, but he also said that the arrest itself was legal. On the other hand, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan felt the arrest by the CBI was not right and was unjustified.

The case is about alleged kickbacks that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are said to have received when they introduced the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22, which has now been canceled.

On March 21, 2024, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case connected to the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal had avoided nine summonses from the ED, calling them “illegal.”

On May 10, 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Supreme Court gave Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal temporary bail until June 1, when the final phase of voting took place. The court told him to surrender by that deadline.

On June 2, 2024, after the elections, Kejriwal turned himself in at Tihar Jail. He had been granted bail for the election period.

Later, on June 26, 2024, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Kejriwal while he was already in jail for another case with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The CBI focused on investigating corruption and bribery related to the liquor policy case, while the ED looked into the money laundering part.

On July 12, 2024, the Supreme Court granted him bail in the ED case, questioning whether his March arrest was valid. However, Kejriwal remained in jail under the CBI’s arrest in the corruption case.

On August 5, 2024, the Delhi High Court supported the CBI’s decision to arrest Arvind Kejriwal and told him to apply for regular bail in the trial court.

A week later, on August 12, 2024, Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Delhi High Court’s decision that approved his arrest by the CBI.

On September 5, 2024, after hearing the arguments from both Kejriwal’s lawyer and the CBI, the Supreme Court decided to take some time before giving its final decision on his bail request related to the excise policy case.

On September 13, 2024, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal bail in the CBI case. He had already been granted bail in the ED case earlier. However, the court ordered that Kejriwal could not enter the Chief Minister’s office or sign any official documents. It also required him to post a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh.

      Portugal vs scotland:Portugal beat Scotland.

      0

Cristiano Ronaldo proved once again why Portugal still needs him in their team by scoring a late goal in a 2-1 win against Scotland. He came on as a substitute in the second half when Portugal was losing 0-1. Shortly after, he hit both goalposts within seconds and remained a threat for the rest of the game.

Scott McTominay scored in the seventh minute, making Portugal worried. But Bruno Fernandes scored an equalizer in the 54th minute.

In the 88th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, left-back Nuno Mendes dribbled past an opponent and crossed the ball. It touched Diogo Jota’s foot and landed right in front of Ronaldo, who easily scored because the goalkeeper wasn’t there. This goal gave Portugal a 2-1 win.

Bruno Fernandes talked about Ronaldo’s impact, saying, “Ronaldo always has a big effect, whether he starts the game or not.”

He added, “Everyone who came on made a difference. Cristiano scored his 901st goal today and is now aiming for a thousand.”

Portugal leads their group with six points after beating Croatia in their first game. Croatia is in second place with three points. Scotland has lost both of their matches, including a recent 2-3 defeat to Poland. Despite a strong first half against Portugal, where Scott McTominay scored from a great pass by Kenny McLean, Scotland still lost.

After McTominay’s goal, Portugal kept attacking Scotland, but goalkeeper Angus Gunn made some amazing saves to keep the score at 1-0 until half-time. Portugal tried to score 15 times in the first half, but Scotland managed to hold them off.

In the 54th minute, Gunn was beaten when Bruno Fernandes scored for Portugal. Before Ronaldo’s winning goal, Portugal had chances to take the lead, but Joao Felix missed two opportunities.

Himachal Pradesh Passes Law: No Pension for MLAs Who Switch Parties

      0

On Wednesday, September 4, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly approved a new law to stop MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly) from switching parties by taking away their pensions. The law, called the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Allowances and Pension of Members) Amendment Bill 2024, was introduced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

According to this law, if an MLA is disqualified under the anti-defection rule (which is in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution), they will lose their right to get a pension. The law also allows the government to take back any pension that has already been given to these disqualified MLAs, as per reported by The Indian Express.

Currently, MLAs in Himachal Pradesh who serve for up to five years can get a monthly pension of Rs 36,000. For each extra year after their first term, they receive an additional Rs 1,000. The anti-defection law, which was introduced in 1985, is meant to stop MLAs from changing parties for personal gain.

In February, six Congress MLAs in Himachal Pradesh were disqualified under this anti-defection law because they didn’t follow their party’s orders during budget discussions.

In recent years, states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh saw governments fall because some MLAs switched parties, leading to the removal of non-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) governments.

      GOAT: Movie review

      0

Director Venkat Prabhu sets the tone for his movie GOAT (The Greatest of All Time), starring Vijay, right from the first scene. The story begins with a secret mission led by Gandhi (played by Vijay) and his team of agents to take down the villain, Rajiv Menon (played by Mohan). Gandhi, as the title suggests, is shown as a strong, stylish hero. In an action-packed scene, Gandhi is about to defeat Rajiv, but his friend stops him due to the situation.

This opening scene gives a glimpse of the entire plot, and Venkat Prabhu adds some standout moments throughout the movie. Although the story follows a familiar pattern, it’s made more exciting with great action and moments that fans will love.

in GOAT, Gandhi leads a Special Anti-Terrorism Squad with his team: Sunil -Prashanth, Ajay -Ajmal, Kalyan -Prabhu Deva, and their boss, Nazeer -Jayaram. They are experienced agents and close friends. Instead of focusing too much on patriotism, the movie shows them as regular people with everyday office conversations. Gandhi’s wife, Anu (Sneha), is not happy when his work starts affecting their personal life.

If you’ve seen action thrillers before, you can sense that things won’t stay peaceful for long, and this calm is just before the chaos. When tragedy finally hits, the story jumps from 2008 to the present, and the action really kicks off, with GOATturning into a fast-paced thriller.

In GOAT, Vijay plays two roles: Gandhi and his son Jeevan. Director Venkat Prabhu makes sure both characters get their moments to shine. Both Gandhi and Jeevan have their own lives, challenges, and missions to complete.

As Gandhi, Vijay portrays a man who is burdened by his responsibilities and is deeply affected by his losses. There’s a powerful scene where Vijay, as Gandhi, shows a lot of emotion after a big loss.

However, it’s Jeevan, Vijay’s younger character, who really stands out. Watching Vijay play a young adult with fun and energetic antics is a real treat. Without giving too much away, it’s clear that Vijay has done a great job in this role, which is something he hasn’t always managed in his previous movies.

GOAT might not be the thrilling globe-trotting spy movie you were expecting, or something like Venkat’s Maanaadu. But if you want to see one of our biggest stars, Vijay, doing all the things we enjoy watching him do—transforming from a GOAT to a Beast—then it’s worth watching. Despite its flaws, seeing a big star like Vijay in action is always exciting.

The Greatest of All Time is currently playing in theatres.
