AIIMS New Delhi 10,000 Surgeries: A Major Achievement
AIIMS New Delhi, recently ranked 6th among the top 10 hospitals in the world, has achieved another big milestone. The hospital’s surgery block has completed more than 10,000 major surgeries in one year.
AIIMS is also the first hospital in India to perform robotic kidney transplant surgery. It successfully carries out more than a dozen complex surgeries that are usually not available together in one hospital.
The Department of Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi shared that in 2025, it performed over 10,000 major surgeries successfully. The hospital said this is a big step towards providing advanced, affordable, and high-quality public healthcare.
Since starting in 2021, the surgery block has expanded a lot. Earlier, it had 5 operation theatres. Now, it has 8 fully working operation theatres. These include a modern robotic surgery unit and a separate emergency operation theatre. This has helped the hospital treat more patients safely and with good results.
Types of Surgeries Available
One special thing about AIIMS is that many types of surgeries are done in one department. These include:
- General surgery
- Stomach and intestine surgery
- Hormone-related surgery
- Chest surgery
- Colon and rectum surgery
- Weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
- Vascular (blood vessel) surgery
- Breast surgery
- Complex organ transplant surgeries
This achievement shows AIIMS New Delhi’s strong commitment to providing the best medical care to patients.
