The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 has begun across 542 seats on June 4, 2024. Early trends show the BJP-led NDA leading in more than 300 seats, while the Opposition’s INDIA bloc has crossed 200 seats.
To form a government at the center, a party or coalition needs to win at least 272 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. With one seat in Surat already won unopposed by the NDA, the fate of the remaining 542 seats will be decided today.
If the NDA wins under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he will become the first PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to secure three consecutive terms.
Exit Poll Predictions for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Most exit polls predicted a comfortable victory for the NDA, with over 350 seats. Three major exit polls – India Today-My Axis India, India TV-CNX, and News24-Todays Chanakya – even projected more than 400 seats for the ruling coalition. The BJP is confident of surpassing the majority mark and has planned celebrations, while the Opposition’s INDIA bloc has dismissed the exit poll results.
Previous Lok Sabha Election Results In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the NDA won 353 seats (BJP secured 303 alone), surpassing pollsters’ predictions of around 285 seats. The UPA managed only 93 seats, with Congress winning 52. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the NDA secured 336 seats, exceeding the estimated 257-340 seats, and Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the first time.
