On May 4th, S Jaishankar, who is India’s Minister dealing with other countries, said that after Prime Minister Modi’s government came into power, India made it very clear that any threat of terrorist activities, terrorist activities coming from across the borders, whether it is from Pakistan or anywhere else, will receive a strong response.
Criticizing Pakistan, Jaishankar said that until the Modi government came, India was tolerating and ignoring these terrorist threats coming from Pakistan. India was not taking any action against them. However, after Modi became the Prime Minister, things changed drastically.
Jaishankar mentioned the incidents of Uri and Balakot to highlight how India responded strongly to terrorist threats from Pakistan under Modi’s leadership. In September 2016, terrorists attacked an Indian army base in Uri, Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers. India blamed Pakistan-based militant groups for the attack. In February 2019, India conducted air strikes on a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, in response to a terrorist attack in Pulwama, Kashmir that killed 40 Indian paramilitary personnel.
Jaishankar said that these incidents show that the Modi government has made it crystal clear that any threat of terrorism, any terrorist activities that cross over from Pakistan into India, will receive an appropriate and strong response from India. India will no longer ignore or tolerate such threats.
In simple terms, Jaishankar accused the previous governments of being too soft on Pakistan-based terrorism, while praising the Modi government for taking a tough stand and giving a befitting response to any cross-border terrorist threats from Pakistan.
