A 30-year-old man allegedly murdered his 26-year-old partner before taking his own life on a railway track in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, police reported on Sunday (July 7) based on preliminary investigations. The woman, identified as Vani Goyal, was discovered deceased in a hotel room, while the man, Vishal Garg, was found dead on the railway track near Urkura railway station earlier that day. Vani’s family, who live in the Saraswati police station area, had filed a missing person report on Saturday. Upon receiving this information, the police initiated a search operation, an official stated.
“Vani Goyal’s mobile location was tracked to Nagpur in neighboring Maharashtra, prompting a police team to rush there. They found her mobile phone but could not locate her,” an official said.
Vishal Garg was a resident of Ambikapur city in Surguja district.
How did the police retrieve her body?
The police received information that Vani’s body was discovered on the floor of a room at Hotel Babylon Inn in the Jail Road area of Raipur, the official said.
The preliminary investigation indicated that she was beaten and strangled to death. The exact cause of death will be confirmed in the postmortem report.
Documents and CCTV footage show that the pair checked into the hotel around 1:30 pm on Saturday. “Preliminary investigation suggests that Garg allegedly murdered the woman before committing suicide. However, the investigation is ongoing,” the official added.
