Landy Parraga, a beautiful Ecuadorian beauty queen and social media influencer, was sadly murdered at a restaurant in Quevedo City on April 28th. The shocking part is that she was shot dead by unknown killers shortly after posting her location and meal of octopus ceviche on Instagram.
Parraga, 23, participated in the 2022 Miss Ecuador contest. She was in Quevedo City for a wedding when the tragic incident occurred. Police suspect she may have been having an affair with a now-deceased drug trafficker named Leandro Norero. There are rumors that Norero’s widow ordered the murder out of jealousy.
Parraga’s name had also appeared in a corruption investigation linking officials to organized crime. Security footage shows her talking to a man at the restaurant before two gunmen approached. One stood by the entrance while the other ran up and shot Parraga three times before fleeing. She died at the scene.
Experts Warn Against Sharing Real-Time Locations on Social Media
While sharing locations on Instagram is common, experts caution against posting real-time updates as it can be unsafe. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network advises waiting until you’ve left a place before tagging the location.
The University of Pittsburgh IT department also warns that oversharing personal information online makes you more vulnerable to stalking, identity theft and other crimes. The tragic murder of Landy Parraga highlights the potential dangers of broadcasting your whereabouts in real-time on social platforms.
