The ‘Gadar’ brand, which was formed in 2001, played a huge role in the success of ‘Gadar 2’, so it was believed that Sunny’s comeback would be truly sealed when his next film would prove to be strong at the box office. Now, with ‘Jaat’, Sunny has made the second best opening collection of his career.
Due to a problem with the censor certificate, the advance booking of ‘Jaat’ could be started only one and a half days before its release. The film got a decent response in advance and the whole game came down to the release day. ‘Jaat’ was released in theatres on Thursday and the film received mostly positive response.
Sunny’s film was described as a strong mass entertainer and its effect started showing from the afternoon shows. Now the first day’s collection of ‘Jaat’ has come out which shows that Sunny has really made a comeback.
‘Jaat’ showed its power on the first day itself. The teaser and trailer of Sunny’s film were liked by the audience but the songs of the film did not create the kind of atmosphere that would have given the film a lot of attention. In such a situation, the audience waited for the reports of the film from the theatres in the morning. After the positive response, the audience started increasing in the shows of ‘Jaat’ from the afternoon and kept increasing. The estimates of trade reports show that ‘Jaat’ has earned in double digits on the first day.
In the final figures, the opening collection of Sunny’s film may be a little more than 10 crores. In the 90s and early 2000s, Sunny’s films used to have some of the biggest openings in Bollywood. But if we talk about the figures, ‘Gadar 2’ is Sunny’s biggest opening film with 40 crores. After this, his biggest opening was 7.95 crores, which came in 2011 with ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’. Throughout the day on Thursday, reports kept coming from B and C class that ‘Jaat’ is getting huge audiences in single screen theatres and mass centres, however, the film has not got a very big opening in metro centres like Delhi-Mumbai.
