Recording sales of 19,412 units in February 2024, the venerable Maruti Wagon R clinched the title of the best-selling vehicle for the month, marking a 15 percent increase in year-on-year sales. With a rich heritage that has significantly shaped the landscape of hatchback automobiles, the Wagon R stands as a trusted choice for both urban commuters and commercial fleet operators alike. Its attributes, including effortless maneuverability, pragmatic design, fuel-efficient powertrains, and various other features, collectively render it an exemplary hatchback tailored for Indian conditions. Notably, sightings of the prototype for the updated Wagon R have been frequent, indicating an imminent release.

Maruti has outfitted the WagonR with two petrol engine options: a 1-liter variant and a 1.2-liter version. Both engines are paired with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT transmission, with the 1-liter variant offering an optional CNG kit but exclusively with manual transmission. Experiencing continued success since its inception, the Tata Punch maintained its momentum in February 2024, emerging as the second best-selling car and surpassing its predecessor, the Tata Nexon. With sales reaching 18,438 units, the Punch achieved a remarkable 65 percent growth compared to the previous year. The introduction of the Tata Punch EV notably bolstered its sales, alongside existing petrol and CNG variants. Its rugged appeal, elevated seating position, SUV-like interiors, and top-notch safety ratings contribute to its popularity in the Indian market.

The Punch is available in petrol, CNG, and electric variants. Petrol iterations feature a 1.2-liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox, while the Punch EV offers battery options of 25 kWh and 35 kWh, providing ranges of 315 km and 421 km, respectively.

Renowned for its family-friendly characteristics and cost-effective operation, the Baleno continues to reign as the best-selling premium hatchback in the market.

Sharing its engine with the Maruti Swift, the Baleno is powered by a 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission, and also offered in CNG variants. Its mileage stands at 22.94 km/l for petrol and 30.61 km/kg for CNG.
