In a recent monsoon update, Varanasi has received a flood warning after the Ganga River touched the danger level. The alert comes after continuous rainfall, which caused the river to swell rapidly. Flood alerts have been raised in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, putting thousands of lives and livelihoods at risk.
According to reports, the Ganga is flowing in full energy in Varanasi, submerging roads, ghats, and temples. Over 84 ghats have been reported underwater, and the rising water has reached temple entrances and police posts. In Sambhal, the river is currently flowing at a dangerous level of 177.60 meters. The district administration has already set up 16 flood control posts and identified 13 shelter homes for affected families, said District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya.
