Police in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan has busted a big cyber criminal gang. 13 international cyber criminals, including three women, were arrested. Police have seized 21 laptops, 21 mobile phones and other electronic devices. They used to pretend to be in the US and commit cyber fraud by stealing data from foreign nationals, especially Americans, in the name of solving various problems related to Microsoft.
Raid on hotel located on Fatehpur bypass?
Deputy Inspector General of Police cum Superintendent of Police Sharad Chaudhary said that on Sunday, CO Rural Hari Singh Dhayal and SHO Mandawa Ramniwas along with their team, Cyber Thana and Cyber Cell, SP Office raided Haji Farooq Bhati’s hotel located on Fatehpur bypass. There, 10 young men and three women were found committing cyber fraud through laptops and other electronic devices. The accused used to receive calls on social media and Micro SIP app from foreign nationals, mostly Americans, facing problems related to Microsoft. On receiving the call, the accused would introduce themselves as Microsoft employees and claim to be located in Washington. They would get the victims’ computers scanned by downloading the Ultra Viewer app.
Tools and techniques of cheating?
The police have found apps like Ultra Viewer, Micro Sip, X-Lite, EyeBeam, Change MAC Address etc. in the laptops recovered from them, which are related to remote control, call transfer and changing MAC ID. The gang used Turbo VPN to use foreign IP. In this way, they used to cheat by getting access to the systems of foreign citizens and obtaining their bank details.
