Delhi CM Kejriwal’s Custody Extended in Excise Policy Scam Case

Must read

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court extended Arvind Kejriwal’s time in judicial custody until July 3. This is related to a case about money laundering in Delhi’s old alcohol policy. The court also extended the custody of another accused person named Vinod Chauhan in the same case.

After their custody ended, Kejriwal and Chauhan were produced before a judge through video from Tihar Jail.

During the hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer opposed extending his custody, saying there were no grounds for it.

On March 21, Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a probe into irregularities in Delhi’s old alcohol policy of 2021-22.

The Enforcement Directorate claims that over Rs 1,100 crore were laundered under this alcohol policy. In a new complaint, they said BRS leader K Kavitha was involved in proceeds of crime worth Rs 292.8 crore.

Recently, the Delhi High Court ordered Kejriwal’s wife Sunita to remove a video of the court hearing from social media. The court also told social media companies to take down similar videos if found.

The High Court issued this order after a petition mentioned videos of Kejriwal addressing the court, posted by his wife and AAP social media handles.
